About the event
As the wildflowers begin to wither and fade, this signals the beginning of what is probably our favorite time of the year; berry and fruit season!
Details
On this walk, we will be traveling into the Sierra Nevada in search of a berry bounty (spoiler...we're gonna find them)! If you've been wondering what that fruit you've been seeing out on the trail is...now's your chance!
While berries will be our focal point, we will also be covering a number of other edible and medicinal plants (potentially mushrooms as well!). Additionally, we will learn the basics of botanical identification, potential look-alikes and the secondary chemical compounds which makes them so delicious (or toxic). This is going to be a fun one!
Leaders
This class will be led Trash Panda Permaculture. TPP is a group of nature-minded souls which focus on the enrichment of our local ecosystems. Their hope is to empower and inspire others to take an active reciprocal role in that process. With expertise in ecology, botany and homesteading, they lead walks and workshops monthly in the greater Northern Sierra Nevada region.
Time and Location
These walks will take place in the general Incline Village, NV region. Participants should expect to hike between 1-3 miles on uneven terrain with roughly 200-400' of elevation gain.
