About the event

As the wildflowers begin to wither and fade, this signals the beginning of what is probably our favorite time of the year; berry season!

Details

On this walk, we will be traveling high into the Sierra Nevada in search of the renowned Blue Elderberry! With this plant, we will learn how to safely harvest and prepare a variety of edible and medicinal products including tinctures, syrups and wine. Participants will also leave with a sample of our medicines!

While Elderberry will be our focal point, we will also be covering a number of plants (likely mushrooms as well!) and diving into the secondary chemical compounds and toxicology of these wonderous creatures.

Leaders

This class will be led Trash Panda Permaculture. TPP is a group of nature-minded souls which focus on the enrichment of our local ecosystems. Their hope is to empower and inspire others to take an active reciprocal role in that process. With expertise in ecology, botany and homesteading, they lead walks and workshops monthly in the greater Northern Sierra Nevada region.

Time and Location

Exact location and other details will be sent at the time of registration. Participants should expect to hike between 1-3 miles on uneven terrain with roughly 200-400' of elevation gain.
